Premarital counseling is therapy assisting couples as they prepare for marriage. Premarital counseling helps ensure each partner has a strong, healthy relationship with each other, thereby insuring a better chance for a satisfying marriage. Premarital counseling helps couples recognize weaknesses which may become exposed once the marriage settles in.
When should you seek pre-marital counseling?
- When you have been in a relationship for a long period of time and are unable to make a commitment, or if your engagement period has gone on for more than a few years. Have you or your partner planned to marry, but somehow haven’t managed to set that date? Avoidance only hides the problem and gives resentments energy to grow. It is time to understand what is going on.
- When you cannot resolve the significant issues, the ones which continue to pop up after you thought they were settled. If you feel unable to communicate with your significant other effectively and have difficulty understanding your partner; then the time to learn how to address your differences is now, before the issues grow to an unmanageable unspoken of monster in the room.
- When your previous marriage or long term relationship did not work out and you wish trying again.
